Delhaize Group-owned Hannaford in the US has selected five stores to participate in its pilot program targeted at increasing the use of reusable shopping bags.
The company will donate $5,000 to local land trusts if the stores are able to reach a 20% reduction in disposable bags between August 28 and February 28. Hannaford is also attempting to help shoppers remember their reusable bags by improving signage and offering coupons and gift cards for customers who use reusable bags.
