FRESH & EASY “EXPRESS” SET TO OPEN IN LOS ANGELES

As anticipated by FOODSline #1/2011 the US division of the U. retailer Tesco will test a smaller-format version of Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Markets. The first store, that should open in mid-November, will be a 4,000 sq ft store at Sixth and Gaffey Streets in San Pedro, which is a community in and around Los Angeles' harbor area and home to the Port of Los Angeles.

The new stores will be in the 4,000 to 5,000 sq-ft range, compared to Fresh & Easy's current 10,000 to- 12,000 sq-ft facilities. They will be an edited version of the existing format, offering basically the same product category assortment as the larger stores but in a limited version.
