DELHAIZE GROUP POSTS SALES INCREASE FOR Q2

Belgium-based retailer Delhaize Group saw second quarter sales reach $7.1 billion, corresponding to an increase of 4.2% at actual exchange rates compared to the same period in 2010.

Net profit rose by 1.9% to $164 million while operating profit decreased by 7.8% to $293 million.

For 2011, Delhaize Group plans a net addition of 115-125 stores to the network by the end of the year (excluding the acquisition of Delta Maxi Group). The retailer expects to be able to seize smaller acquisition opportunities in South-eastern Europe.

Regarding its US operations, Delhaize remains focused on expanding in the Greater Philadelphia market with the Bottom Dollar Food format.
