WHOLE FOODS REPORTS STRONG QUARTER

Second-quarter profits increased 33%, to $89.9 million, or 51% per share, from a year earlier. Sales for the quarter were up 12%, to $2.35 billion.
Sales at stores open more than a year were up 7.8%.

Whole Foods founder and co-CEO John Mackey said the quarter produced the strongest results the company has reported in five years.
