U.S. grocer SuperValu is planning to expand its Save-A-Lot discount network by 160 new stores this year. The company also revealed a like-for-like sales decrease from its regular retail chains, including Jewel and Cub Foods, and will not expanding those banners further.
A company spokesman told GlobeSt.com that the company will focus on reversing the like-for-like sales decrease this year, as well as improving its price positioning and convincing consumers to do their full shopping at its stores. The strategy includes extending sales areas at Save-A-Lot, targeting households with annual incomes of $45,000 or less, boosting loyalty, as well as increasing the attractiveness of stores as neighbourhood points.
